Abstract

The Suffolk County A.H.R.C. Deaf-Blind Program is a behaviorally oriented program providing intensive, specalized training to multi-handicapped mentally retarded children ranging in age from 8 to 19. The three major areas of program concentration are pre-academic skills, language and signing, and pre-vocational training. The purpose of this paper is to describe some of the procedures which have been successfully used with deaf-blind mentally retarded children to teach these skills.
