Abstract

Research by a National Football League (NFL) committee that found that head trauma had posed no significant risk to professional football players was skewed by significant undercounting of the number of concussions that the athletes had experienced, the New York Times reported on 24 March.

The reporters found that, although the NFL committee members had claimed in their papers that they had included all concussions diagnosed by team medical staff from 1996 to 2001 in their analysis (887 in total), more than 100 concussions were not included.
