Abstract

Since the success of the Cuban‐Soviet "political‐military" revolutionary model in Nicaragua in 1979, Cuba, in tandem with the Sandinistas, has worked to introduce and systemize such a model throughout much of Latin America. This is done by Cuban support of insurgent groups in a given country being made a condition of their forming, together with the local Moscow‐line Communist Party, a Marxist‐Leninist alliance under Cuban direction. This paper traces the development of Cuba's America Department and documents the extent of its activities in support of extremist groups in Latin America and Puerto Rico, including its use of Nicaragua as a regional subversive center.
