Abstract

In brief: The University of Wisconsin Hospital Sports Medicine and Fitness Center gives a mandatory battery of tests to everyone who wants to use the facility. It includes a sub-maximal stress test, muscular strength tests, flexibility tests, and an assessment of body composition. Prospective clients also complete a health-risk profile and activity questionnaire. An exercise prescription that takes into account the likes and dislikes of the individual is formed from the information received in these tests. The clinic staff uses positive feedback and frequent evaluations to keep the individual interested in making exercise a part of the daily routine.
