Abstract

To accommodate bicyclists traveling from residential neighborhoods to Seattle's downtown, the Westlake cycle track was constructed. The track is a two-way, raised surface adjacent to the sidewalk and completely separated from vehicular traffic. A 1.2 mile-long roadside parking lot was modified to allow for the track while preserving 90% of the existing parking spaces. Since the track's opening, bicycling on the corridor has doubled.
