Abstract

Why siblings? The "sibling trauma" and the "law of the mother" on the "horizontal" axis. - The author points out that a new sibling is the first figure we would like to murder (and actually could murder). We experience him/her by no means as "someone else" but as someone who is very much (too much) "the same." The article discusses how siblings and their later lateral inheritors discover and create the social world with the help of psychic mechanisms that differ significantly from those operative in the œdipal family. The author's contention is that psychoanalysis needs a horizontal axis to supplement the vertical baby/mother and child/father axes that have dominated analytic practice and theory to this day. The concepts of "sibling trauma" and the subsequent "law of the mother" attempting to suppress the consequence of that trauma are posited here as the essential framework within which this new understanding can emerge.


Der erste, den wir ermorden möchten (und könnten), ist das neue Geschwisterkind, das wir keineswegs als den "Anderen" erleben, sondern das uns selbst allzu sehr "gleich" ist, so die Autorin. Der Beitrag erläutert, wie Geschwister und ihre späteren lateralen Erben die soziale Welt mithilfe psychischer Mechanismen entdecken und erschaffen, die sich deutlich von denen unterscheiden, die in der ödipalen Familie vorherrschen. Die Psychoanalyse, so die These, muss die vertikale Baby-Mutter- sowie die Kind-Vater-Achse, die ihre Praxis und Theorie bis heute maßgeblich strukturieren, um eine horizontale Achse ergänzen. Die Konzepte eines "Geschwistertraumas" und eines nachfolgenden "Gesetzes der Mutter", das dessen Konsequenzen zu unterbinden sucht, dienen hier als entscheidender Bezugsrahmen, in dem sich dieses neue Verständnis herausbilden kann.
