Abstract

Doctors in India are still carrying out the “two finger” test on rape victims despite the government calling for a ban on the practice.

A report by Human Rights Watch1 found that hospitals in Rajasthan still require doctors to carry out the “degrading practice,” where a doctor inserts their fingers into the vagina to assess a woman’s sexual activity.

The report, based on research and interviews in the states of Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, and the cities of New Delhi and Mumbai, found that some doctors were unaware that the government had called for a ban on the test and introduced …
