Abstract

OBJECTIVES: This case study investigated the effectiveness of EFT with a couple experiencing domestic violence.

METHODS: A total of 13 therapy sessions were conducted for the study: three 50-minute sessions with the individual participants and ten 90-minute couple sessions. Scales were used to measure family conflict and self-esteem both before and after the sessions.

RESULTS: The therapist offered an understanding of the couple's negative interactions, allowed them to sufficiently express their injured feelings, and, through EFT, helped them recognize the desires for attachment. The couple developed new interactions as their self-esteem and conflicts were analyzed.

CONCLUSIONS: EFT with married couples can reduce the dangers of domestic violence and prevent repeated instances of it.
