Abstract

In a sample of 250 high school students, depression was found to be a much stronger correlate of suicidal preoccupation than shyness, alienation or academic performance. For males, suicidal preoccupation was also related to academic performance, while for females suicidal preoccupation was also related to alienation, but neither of these associations survived controls for depression.
