Abstract

This study examined the possibility that differences in reflection-impulsivity reported earlier between Irish children and children from the U.S.A. were due to the confounding of social class with nationality and not to cultural differences. As predicted Irish children, at both the 7- and 10-years of age, in the present study again responded more quickly on the MFF20 compared to American norms. However, examination of these results in terms of social class revealed that response times increased significantly with increasing social class and that middle class Irish children responded at the same rate as that reported for children of the same age in the U.S.A.
