Abstract

The behaviour of a farm tractor moving directly uphill is considered in terms of longitudinal stability, steering control, maximum slope climbable and the D.B. pull which it can provide. Graphical methods of assessing machines are suggested and used for theoretical comparison of a rear and a four-wheel drive tractor. Reasons for behaviour differences among machines and the scope for their improvement are discussed.
