Abstract

This inter-disciplinary paper applies standard concepts from the study of Organizational Behavior (OB) /Sociology of Complex Organizations (goals, hierarchy, size, sub-contracting and use of agents, diversification, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, public relations and marketing, tax avoidance, value placed on Intellectual Property, protection of trade secrets and "dirty" inside knowledge, competition with similar entities, distain for and attempts to influence government) to an organized crime entity, namely Outlaw Motorcycle Clubs (OMGs) to demonstrate how OMGs can be usefully analyzed from the perspective of OB/ complex organizations, and to document how OMGs function more like large legitimate corporations than the gangs they evolved from.
