Abstract

Ethical concerns commonly arise in innovative human research when there are doubts about the merit of the scientific question at hand or about whether the research will yield sufficient new knowledge and potential benefits to justify the risks and burdens it poses. Other ethical questions also come up around the intrinsic vulnerability of the people or populations under study and the adequacy of human participant safeguards.
