Abstract

An article about the abuse received for specialising in women's issues ‐ by an academic who specialises in both women's and men's issues. This article is adapted from a viral blog which was read 300,000 times in a week, discussing the way people ask 'what about men?' whenever the writer talks about women and girls, but is hailed as a hero whenever she talks about men and boys. This article contains language that some readers may find offensive. This has not been edited out because it is material to the issue under discussion.

Key messages
