Abstract

Among 6.1 million children with asthma, 38% have uncontrolled asthma leading to increased pediatric emergency department (ED) visits, hospitalizations, and healthcare costs. Uncontrolled asthma unequally harms children from lower-income, racial and ethnic minority families. Disparities in asthma control have been attributed to differential exposures to poverty, living in unsafe, stressful neighborhoods, and unhealthy physical environments.
