Abstract

The purpose of this study is to conduct a meta-analytic assessment of the effects of disciplinary alternative program (DAP) placement on student outcomes, including disciplinary sanctions, academic performance, and truancy. A total of 14 eligible studies were identified in peer-reviewed and grey literature, producing a total of 62 effect sizes. Five subgroup analyses were conducted.

RESULTS of the meta-analysis found an overall nonsignificant effect of DAP placement on student outcomes and subgroup analyses revealed differences in the effects of DAP placement by measurement time point and outcome type.

RESULTS of this study indicate DAP placement does not significantly improve student outcomes. This study emphasizes the need for rigorous methodological research examining the effect of DAP placement on adolescent delinquency.
