Abstract

Ramos et al. have recently published a paper in Safety Science journal elaborating on expected operators' tasks and potential human failures in the future Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships' (MASS) collision avoidance, see (Ramos et al., 2019). The topic is relevant and valid, while we found the paper interesting and meaningful. However, we also found some statement and conclusions within the paper that may lead to confusion, especially among less experienced readers.

By no means should the scientific value of the paper as a whole be undermined especially since the research is at its early stage. However we would like to communicate here some three points, in order to avoid confusion in the future works related to autonomous ships safety...
