Abstract

A pilot scheme in Devon is trialling the use of vehicle-activated signs in association with camera enforcement of the speed limit. The figures available so far indicate that this strategy is effective in reducing traffic speeds very much beyond that achieved by standard signing alone. The results so far have been obtained without police enforcement being carried out on the route. Once enforcement begins, further monitoring will be carried out to establish the longer-term combined effect of this method of speed management.
