Abstract

An increase in the usage of body worn cameras in North America offers the opportunity for crime scene investigators to place themselves at the initial collision investigation, aiding crash reconstruction. The author discusses the pioneering use of body worn cameras by the Spartanburg, South Carolina Police Department. The article explores the methodology and processes of crash reconstruction via body worn camera and the Photomodeler photogrammetry application. The article also describes outcomes of live crash testing performed by the South Carolina Justice Academy's in October 2017; this crash testing serves as a foundation for testing the reliability of using photogrammetry with body worn camera footage.
