Abstract

The standard golf cart is a low speed vehicle (LSV) that is typically limited by speed governors or gearing to a stop speed of 15 mph. The neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV) is a new class of vehicle that can attain speeds of 20 to 25 mph. The authors test six vehicles categorized as either golf cart or scooter and compile data on acceleration, hard brake, stability testing and specifications. The vehicles tested are: the 2018 E Wheels EW-36 scooter; the 2013 Club Car golf cart; the 2009 Club Car Precedent 12 golf cart; the 2012 EZGO TXT 48 golf cart; the EZGO RXV golf cart; and the Fair Play ZX golf cart. The authors suggest that the results for the test vehicles can be used as an indicator of the representative performance of electric golf carts or scooters relative to the speed vs. distance, speed vs. time, and distance vs. time.
