Abstract

Occupational ApplicationsRisk factors for work-related musculoskeletal disorders were found to be prevalent in the informal work sector of tire tread removing units at Jabalpur in Central India. A majority of the tasks examined were in high-risk category requiring immediate ergonomic intervention. We show that using relatively simple methods, with little training, can aid in early detection of risk factors and thus help to prevent the onset of work-related musculoskeletal disorders. Based on the study results, we present several possible ergonomics interventions, which may be a cost-effective approach to reducing injury risk and enhancing productivity.
