Abstract

Since approximately half of the fatalities caused by traffic accidents occur on community roads, there is strong demand for the promotion of suitable traffic safety measures. In view of this, local residents and government agencies have been working together to improve traffic safety in "Ichi Elementary School District" in Minamiawaji City, Hyogo Prefecture. Technical support measures conducted by government agencies include quantification of traffic issues using big data as well as traffic safety diagnosis by experts at the Road Traffic Safety Promotion Committee. This paper reports on the specific measures used in Minamiawaji City and areas of future study regarding the promotion of traffic safety measures for community roads.
