Abstract

The research methods and key problems of reconstruction of vehicle-pedestrian collision are discussed in this paper. The significance of pedestrian safety of flat front vehicles such as buses and trucks are indicated specially. Also, a simulation method is presented for reconstruction pedestrian accident involving flat-front vehicle and applied to two real-world bus-pedestrian accidents. In this method, the front surface of the bus was approximated by triangular or quadrangular elements using 3D digital photogrammetry, so that the interaction between bus and pedestrian can be described based on finity element-multi body contact algorithm. Furthermore, by comparing autopsy reports with simulation, we find that pedestrian injuries, especially chest injuries, can be used as reconstructive factors in flat-front vehicle-pedestrian accident.
