Abstract

In this paper, a combined longitudinal and semi-transverse ventilation system is recommended, and the equations being used to compute ventilation are deduced in detail. By using the combined longitudinal and semi-transverse ventilation system, it will be greatly helpful to realize the computer programming in the selection of ventilation systems in highway tunnels and solve many problems, such as the limitation to the length of each subsection in longitudinal ventilation system tunnels and the over-depth of the airshaft. The distribution of pressure and velocity in both one-way and two-way traffic tunnels is predicted under this ventilation system by specific numerical computation examples. It is proved that the application of the combined longitudinal and semi-transverse ventilation system is feasible in the lengthy highway tunnels.
