Abstract

This study investigates the frequency, severity, and effects of sexual harassment in Pakistani universities. The objective was to investigate the female university student's experiences of sexual harassment and its effects on their education. This research study is based on Phenomenological paradigm and interpretive approach. Qualitative method was used for the purpose of data collection in this study. The population of the study was delimited to the female university students of public and private universities in Lahore city. The sample size of the study was 40 female university students. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews. Snowball purposive sampling has been done. Interviews were recorded and themes were derived. The results of this research revealed that most of the (90%) female university students said that they were verbally harassed inside university premises on daily basis whereas 10% of students reported about other types of harassment. Most of the female students have no awareness of dealing, reporting, and meeting the challenge of sexual harassment. Majority of the students said that their education got affected due to sexual harassment in their educational institutions. Moreover some respondents reported that their university performance decreased in quality during and after the harassment.
