Abstract

Since the traveling sound of an electric motorcycle is smaller than that of a gasoline motorcycle, pedestrians may not be able to easily recognize the traveling sound of an approaching motorcycle. We conducted a running test of a typical electric motorcycle sold in Japan to determine the distance needed for pedestrians to recognize its approaching sound. Further, the distance traveled from the occurrence of a hazardous event until the riders stopped their motorcycle was estimated in order to consider the measures necessary to ensure safety.
