Abstract

The response of Flex-PLI and TRL legform impactor were compared with changing the car parameters based on finite element analysis. Based on motion equations of TRL legform rigid body model, the basic parameters of car absorber stiffness and geometry that affect injury measures were determined. The tibia acceleration of TRL impactor and the tibia bending moment of Flex-PLI were dependent on different vehicle parameters. The bottoming-out of the bumper absorber increased the tibia acceleration of TRL legform impactor, whereas it had little effect on injury measures of Flex-PLI, and with this bottoming-out the stress of the tibia was low from human FE analysis.
