Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the effect of impact conditions on injury criteria in TRL legform impactor to bumper impact test. The impact occasions were simulated employing finite element models of the legform impactor and frontal part of vehicle. Various impact occasion, in which impact velocity, location of impact point on bumper surface, pitching angle, yawing angle and rolling angle of the legform impactor were employed as parameters, were simulated. It was clarified that the pitching" is the most influential factor that affects the measured criteria in bumper impact test conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to take into account the effect of the pitching on the injury criteria when we establish a regulation of legform impactor to bumper impact test.
