The author presents a methodology for studying traffic accidents as a form of epidemic. He gives a lengthy history of epidemiology beginning with Hippocrates, and then procedes with methodology for research of traffic accidents based on epidemiological research. Criteria are given for personnel training and data acquisition, classification and analysis. The author then discusses the application of epidemiological concepts such as etiology, infectiousness, virulence, pathogenic capacity, resistance, immunity, and carriers to the field of accident research.
