Abstract

This paper presents the results of studies of the medical condition of Swedish patients after they have received kidney transplants, with reference to their fitness for driving. The patients generally feel best and have the highest quality of life after transplantation, although many of them have no symptoms in the early stages of their kidney disease. Their condition is dominated by individual symptoms, especially diabetes, that depend on the disease. The introduction of treatment with recombinant erythropoietin has improved life parameters comparably to successful transplantation. The evaluation of driving fitness after transplantation should be done for each individual, and not for a group of patients with different diagnoses.
