Abstract

The results of a case study, based on 284 casualties of motorcycle riders with machines under 50 cc, are presented to show the effectiveness of crash helmets in the reduction of head and neck injuries. Data are also presented to show the increasing influence of alcohol in accidents involving motorcyclists. The author concludes that the wearing of crash helmets be made mandatory in all countries for riders of machines under 50 cc. The withdrawl of driving licences is proposed as a method of reducing alcohol related accidents involving motorcyclists. /TRRL/
