Abstract

This short article describes the work of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and provides a list of research projects carried out by them between 1978 and 1988. Among its statutory duties, the NTSB is required to investigate and determine the probable cause of accidents in all modes of transportation; to recommend safety improvements to make the transportation of persons as safe and free from risk of injury as is possible; to conduct special safety studies and special investigations on matters pertaining to safety in transportation including human injury avoidance and to assess the effectiveness of other government agencies programmes to prevent accidents.
