Abstract

I recently published a letter entitled "Has the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic suppressed the increase in suicide rates in population outflow areas?" In this letter, I suggested that restraints on population migration were involved in the decreased suicide rate recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic (Fushimi, 2023). The data presented at that time were derived from a comparative study between Akita Prefecture, which has been experiencing remarkable depopulation, and the capital, Tokyo (Fushimi, 2023). In the present letter, I would like to provide additional data to complement the previous report and further develop the discussion.
