Acknowledgments: The authors acknowledge the role of ST Mitchell, MD, who provided consultation on the day following admission based on the Santa Cruz Protocol, which includes rapid multi-liter volume replacement, sustained aggressive IV hydration, nothing by mouth status, octreotide infusion, and gallbladder aspiration in substitution for intravenous silibinin when serum lactate values remain elevated despite prerenal acute kidney injury resolution.
