Abstract

Stein's and Allen's paper is consistent with recent field observations showing slower than average speeds of travel in many high BAC crashes, and it provokes interesting questions about the interpretation of research by Solomon. Further issues requiring exploration are the effects of underlying personality characteristics as modifiers of risk taking behavior in the presence of alcohol, and the interactions of driver and vehicle characteristics to affect risk taking behavior after alcohol use.
