Abstract

The determination and correction of factors contributing to occupational injury and illness is a basic need in the field of safety and health. Unless accident causes are found and remedied there is little utility in collecting accident statistics or conducting accident investigations. This paper suggests a comprehensive approach to causal factor identification that incorporates a variety of existing techniques and philosophies, including the use of existing accident data systems, hazard analysis methods, and special survey studies.
