In an ideal world, all authors' names would be consistent for all articles they publish. Name differences can appear when the article is submitted, full names may be changed by the editor to a last name with initials (sometimes dropping one or more initials), or the metadata supplied to SafetyLit by journal publishers may be incorrect or incomplete. Even subtle differences can make it impossible to automate the assignment of articles to authors already in the database. The result is a body of an author's work spread among near-duplicate names.
