Abstract

Approximately 4.4 million adult American women are abused by their spouse or intimate partner each year. In the U.S., intimate partner violence is the leading cause of serious injury to women and accounts for more than half of all female homicides. Despite official recommendations for routine screening for abuse in pregnant women, clinical and research studies report that abuse screening is not routine. Here's a look at two screening tools that may help curb the incidence of violence in pregnancy.
