Abstract

Eight different computer simulation models have been developed at HSRI for studying the dynamic performance of heavy trucks. To obtain parametric inputs for the computer programs, HSRI also uses six special facilities developed to measure properties of vehicles, suspension systems, braking systems, and tires. The computer models and measurement facilities were developed over several years with research support mainly from the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association, and have been used in recent or current research programs sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Federal Highway Administration, the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association, and other industrial or governmental organizations. As an overview for nonspecialists, this article briefly describes those research resources and their applications.
