Abstract

The stopping distance method of determining skid resistance of pavement used in virginia is described. This method is compared with the general motors test trailer method. Data obtained suggests that coefficients obtained by the general motors results are lower than those obtained by the stopping distance method. It is concluded that standardization of equipment is necessary for an exact comparison. Experience with the trailer showed that it is an excellent method of measuring road surface friction.
