Abstract

In laboratory tests, the size of a flame front can significantly affect the rate of fire spread. The configuration factor of a given flame shape provides a method for relating flame fronts of various widths. The author discusses an analog system for determining the configuration factor of an irregularly shaped flame and the effects of flame width and height on the rate of spread.
