Abstract

This article explores unemployment among the youths in Nigeria and its impact on peace and stability in the country. It draws data from National Bureau of statistics documents, books, journal articles, and other scholarly works. These were analyzed in order to re-evaluate the implication of unemployment among the youths in Nigeria and proffer solutions to the predicament.

FINDINGS revealed that the unemployment rate among the youths in Nigeria is high and worrisome despite the rich natural recourses in the country. It further indicates that youth unemployment is associated with high rate of violence and criminality in the country which have continued to jeopardize the peace and security of the nation. To reverse the trend of youth unemployment and ensure peace and security in Nigeria, the research suggests that the Nigerian government should set up more skill acquisition centres through effective entrepreneurship development, revitalize ailing industries, encourage agriculture, and fight corruption.
