Abstract

Until the recent bombing of a U.S. federal building in Oklahoma City, domestic terrorism received less scholarly attention than international terrorism. In particular, environmental terrorism (the use of violence by substate actors to promote environmental causes) has been virtually ignored. This article seeks to examine environmental terrorism in terms of its nature, its history, the philosophical justifications of its perpetrators, and some of the tactics employed by eco‐terrorists.
