Abstract

Railway track irregularity needs to be kept at a satisfactory level by taking appropriate maintenance activity. It is desirable and important to optimize the activity in terms of running safety and maintenance cost in order to obtain the higher productivity for railway utilities. Optimal strategy may be different by various conditions of each railway track division, i.e. the number of passengers, train velocity, single/double track, transportation frequency and so on. In this paper, we show the range for the optimal surface irregularity to be maintained by taking both maintenance cost and risk cost for derailment into account by using optimization model analyses. Furthermore, we propose the estimation method for the optimal maintenance strategy by considering the characteristics of each railway division.
