Abstract

In summary, the field of PM&R offers a focused interdisciplinary approach to the person with a disability and specifically to the older adult with functional limitations. The elderly crash victim presents with a multitude of problems that can be managed well in a geriatric rehabilitation setting, following acute management interventions. The importance of early assessment of social supports, living situations, physical abilities, and functional skills cannot be overemphasized. It is also vital to understand the various rehabilitation settings available and which setting is most appropriate to allow the older adult to achieve maximal independence in a variety of functional tasks, including driving.
