Abstract

Accidents, traffic flow and acceptance of intermediate cross sections between two-lane and divided four-lane roads were the subject of an eight-year research study by the German Federal Highway Research Institute. The results are reported and information for three-lane roads of the type b2+1 are given on cross section, road marking, intersections, traffic signs and critical lane drop and uncritical lane addition changes.
