Abstract

In order to install an obstacle detecting system in an automobile, a system was developed which detects the distance from the vehicle to an obstacle with which it is on a collision course. The speed of the vehicle and the size of the obstacle are measured using a stereo camera. Exclusive correlative operation hardware and high-speed algorithm were developed, and the system has shown that it can detect obstacles during tests in real time situations. In this paper, an explanation of the hardware and the software of the system and the results of experiments are given.
