Abstract

The abusive geriatric patient can be problematic in a cohabitation living environment, such as a nursing home, for a number of reasons, as well as being emotionally disruptive to those in close contact. Yet we can not give up on trying to generate a more harmonious situation for all concerned, including the abuser. Through education, stress management training, and the implementation of proven behavioral control techniques, we can create a situation where a qualitative improvement occurs. It is our duty to the resident and the persons who come in daily contact with the aggressive maturian to try to nurture a more positive atmosphere where all can co-exist.
