Abstract

The Health of the Nation targets have raised the profile of the need for accident prevention strategies for school children. Tannahill's health promotion model identifies a model of health, which in turn leads to a goal for health promotion. To develop effective health promotion and accident prevention nurses need to work in co-operation with other agencies. Health promotion in schools reaches a large audience and is an important means of reaching this age group. For accident prevention to be effective, hazards and/or risk taking behaviour should be reduced.
