Abstract

This paper presents the rationale for the introduction of 'Life Skills Education' in the promotion of road safety among young people. Six key life skills for road safety promotion have been identified and included in the school-based proqramme named 'Life Skills for Road Safety'. This programme is divided into three sections directed at Primary, Junior and Senior High School students. The inclusion of psycho-social, relational and attitudinal elements into road safety education appears to be particularly desireable considering the overriding importance of the behavioural component in the determinism of many road accidents involving young people.
